Staff or faculty of academic and administrative units may create social network pages, profiles, boards or feeds on behalf of their department, college or program. However, the university Social Media Handbook should be utilized and administrators of such networks must be aware that they are carrying the Boise State brand with each comment, photo, post or tweet.
The social network may use the University Signature Mark, but must adhere to the established graphic identify standards for its use. Logos exclusive to Boise State social media profiles may be downloaded through the university Social Media Handbook. The Bronco athletics logo may not be used. Always refer to the university as Boise State University and avoid BSU as described on Referencing the University. This is especially important when communicating in global platforms such as social media. Whenever possible, include Boise State in the name of your university-based social media profile.
Creating a Social Network Account
The email address used to get the social network operational should be a generic Boise State University address (which the OIT Help Desk can create), rather than someone’s personal university email account. This prevents the situation where the originating employee or student leaves, and the university or group has no way of accessing or maintaining the network.
Once the social network site is established, register on the Social Networks Form so it can be added to the web-based, social media directory for Boise State University. The Office of Communications and Marketing will confirm the network’s affiliation with the university, then add it to the directory. This helps to promote the network, leverage the Boise State brand and add interest in your online social community.
